I am about to do something I never contemplated doing in my wildest dreams! A pilgrimage? Walking 500 miles? No high heels or edgy clothes? No makeup or hairdryer? No daily Starbucks? Carrying a 20-lb backpack? Blogging, really? In a week I will be flying to Madrid and finding my way to St. Jean to start walking the Camino Santiago.
Why - you are likely to ask? I am sure I will learn more about my reasons along the way but for now I can tell you that I want to experience life stripped of the usual creature comforts and to prove that 64 is the new 24. I have also been inspired by my dear friend Jim McInnis who has twice completed this journey and swears he arrived in Santiago a better man. So, stay tuned for the challenges, joys and the unexpected of this adventure.

ReplyDeleteCarol, I clearly did not make your "A" list since I had to hear about this fabulous adventure from Bill Single. I assume I was excluded because you were concerned that I might crack a joke or two questioning how you could possibly squeeze your shoe collection and designer eyewear into your backpack. Nonetheless, I wish you all the best and will be interested in hearing all about your journey! :)
ReplyDeleteCarol: You have my ardent support as you begin your pilgrimage. This is a daring venture!! I am so very proud of you. I hope you will witness many miracles along the way. Buen Camino. Meredith

Greetings, I love your description of Hotel Eslava- it does look like the room of our PMA nuns- Your joy at having started the adventure comes through clearly and all prayers heading your way- I am a reluctant traveler and with a son who is 6'3 and a husband at 6'4 when we visited my son in spain, we changed hotels often to find American size beds- I fell in love with the Spanish people-- Cheers,Diane
ReplyDeleteThese photos and descriptions are amazing. The fact that you are finding time to keep up with it is very impressive.
