In some odd way, the overcast skies and drizzle set just the right mood for the pilgrims' climb to Alto del Pardon - the Hill of Forgiveness. It was a gradual 8-mile ascent that felt more tedious than it should have. At the top, you are greeted by wind turbines towering over a sculpture of pilgrims dedicated to those who have walked the Camino before us with the inscription, "Where the way of the wind crosses the way of the stars."
As Camino Jim had warned, the nearly 7-mile descent to Puente la Reina over loose stones was a bit trickier. Unlike the medieval pilgrims, however, many of us took full advantage of lightening our loads at cafes along the way. My feet are looking forward to the more gentle paths over the next 2 days!

Camino Carol,
ReplyDeleteHow lucky you are to have your own personal guide in Camino Jim. You seem a wonderful team. The first overcast photo sets the mood-I can almost feel the greyness. I am happy to be part of your adventure! Thank you for posting after your long treks. Your posts are inspiring, and sometimes dreamy, like the nearly full moon above us tonight. With much love, Suzette XXXOOO, in bed as I type this!
I have been reading Jim's book to keep track of where you are. That descent looks terrible to me. 7 miles of that. I still remember the 2 mile straight down that we did on the long one at dm. I can feel my knee hurting just looking at the pic. seems you are getting a lot of rain but at least no snow yet. meeting any interesting pilgrims.
ReplyDeleteSweetheart,
ReplyDeleteI am sure the reality of what you are facing is beginning to find its way into your thoughts. But I know that you will overcome, with a smile, any obstacles that confront you. Your words and pictures are wonderful and lend insight into your adventures. Be safe "Sparky" !!
Your Hubby
Love to read these posts. Big hugs!

ReplyDeleteAuntie Carol,
ReplyDeleteThis looks like walking up to your house from the main road for 7 miles straight, what a challenge! The only thing you are missing is the blazing sun and black asphalt haha. Thinking of you every day, love and miss you.
