An absolutely gorgeous sunrise greeted me as I started the journey to Mansilla de las Mulas. The 13 miles flew by as I leisurely walked alongside fields and streams, and was rightfully reminded by the Cross of Santiago that I was actually on a pilgrimage.
Before I knew it, we arrived in the medieval town of Mansilla de las Mulas, the meeting place for the converging pilgrim routes of the Real Camino Frances and Calzada Romana. As usual, our first order of business was to find our resting place for the night, never knowing what to expect. We were relieved to step into a charming inn converted from a 250-year-old farmhouse on the banks of the River Esla. The proprietor, Javier, greeted us like long lost pilgrims and could not do enough to make us feel at home. The pride he took in stamping our pilgrims' credentials, the official document that records the places we have passed on the Camino, said it all.
At the end of the day, we were left to rest with an inspirational view from the bedrooms in the old converted farmhouse and I had to ask myself who was looking over us.

Carol - So much experienced so far and still so much to discover. Love the pics and your narrative. So proud of you for staying the course and for taking it all in. Love you, Kelly
ReplyDeleteHello Carol,
ReplyDeleteWhat a wondrous sun rise! The ladies laughing on the bench is contagious - I smiled as I watched you all lean into one another, laughing. I could not figure out what you were holding up! Such a quaint home! It seems that there is an abundance of life, of all that is needed and pilgrim vibes everywhere. Your credentials are colorful and varied, just like your journey. Keep on keeping it real!!! Love, Suzette

ReplyDeleteI just got caught up on your wonderful camino journey! ReplyDeleteOk Carol, you made me a blogger. What a beautiful journey! The pictures and stories are amazing. Cindy and I will continue to follow you to the last step. We are very proud of you my friend.
ReplyDeleteI have one small favor to ask. As you begin the home stretch, please take a moment, at a special spot on the trail to say a small prayer for all of us.
Be safe, can't wait for the four of us to celebrate your accomplishment with a nice bottle of red.
God Bless
I remember the next day only because the Camino spits and one trail goes to Paramo and the other to Mazarife... Of course my room was in Paramo and I missed the turn an ended up in Mazarife! Lucky I found a place to stay. You have a walking family so I'm sure you will get to the correct town. Stay safe and keep sending the great pictures and the daily adventures! Buen Camino.
ReplyDeleteSweetheart
